RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Approve Agreement Number 2020-16 (Attachment 1) between the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the United States Department of Justice;
2. Authorize the Chair of the Board, Sheriff, Undersheriff or Deputy Director Sheriff's Administration to sign Agreement Number 2020-16 (Attachment 1) and to execute all necessary contracts and agreements and amendments thereto, in the name of the County of Humboldt, and all other certifications, assurances, or documents required by the Department of Justice for this grant program; and
3. Approve the supplemental budget (Attachment 2) for Sheriff Operations Domestic Cannabis Eradication/Suppression Program Grant (DCESP) budget unit 1100-221931 (4/5 vote required).

DISCUSSION:
Each year the DEA makes funding available to reimburse agencies for certain expenditures related to the eradication of marijuana in local jurisdictions. HCSO has received notice of approval for $406,000 for the period of Oct. 1, 2019 to Sept. 30, 2020. This is an increase of $181,000 from last year's grant.

The funds will be spent for overtime of deputies or officers directly engaged in the cannabis eradication process, as well as some direct costs associated with the eradication and/or arrest of controlled substance violators.
