DISCUSSION:
The Humboldt County Drug Task Force (DTF) is comprised of representatives from Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, District Attorney's Office, Arcata Police Department, Eureka Police Department, and California Highway Patrol. The task force integrates federal, state and local law enforcement agencies for the purpose of enhancing interagency coordination and facilitates multi-jurisdictional investigations. For more than 15 years, the funds from the JAG program have enhanced the DTF operations. There is a state allocation and local allocation for the JAG program. The Sheriff's Department has applied and was awarded a 2-year grant for a total of $18,242 from the local allocation. The requested grant funds would be used to purchase equipment and provide the necessary Incident Based Reporting (IBR) for the DTF. The Sheriff's Office has also applied for the state allocation and should know the outcome of that grant award in the fall of 2019.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The local JAG grant funds enable county and municipal law enforcement agencies to enhance the DTF Prosecution Program in support of the Marijuana and Narcotics Enforcement program. The Sheriff's Office has been awarded this grant and the funds in the amount of $18,242 have been budgeted in fiscal year 2019-20 in budget unit 1100-499 Byrne Jag Local Grant.
