RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Approve Agreement Number 2019-18 (Attachment 1) between the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) and the Drug Enforcement Administration of the United States Department of Justice;
2. Authorize the Sheriff, Undersheriff or Deputy Director Sheriff's Administration to sign Agreement Number 2019-18 (Attachment 1) and to execute all necessary contracts and agreements and amendments thereto, in the name of the County of Humboldt, and all other documents required by the Department of Justice for the grant program; and
3. Authorize the Sheriff, Undersheriff or Deputy Director Sheriff's Administration to sign certifications (Attachment 2):
a. Request for Advance or Reimbursement
b. Certification Regarding Lobbying; Debarment, Suspension and Other Responsibility Matters, and Drug Free Workplace Requirement
c. Assurances

DISCUSSION:
Each year the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) makes funding available to reimburse agencies for certain expenditures related to the eradication of marijuana in local jurisdictions. Announcement of awards was made on Feb. 21, 2019 and HCSO has received notice of approval for $225,000 for the period of Oct. 1, 2018 to Sept. 30, 2019. This shortened grant performance period will allow the Drug Enforcement Administration to coordinate future grant periods to coincide with the federal fiscal year.
