RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Accept the completed contract, including all change orders approved by the Public Works Department between Shasta Services, Inc., dba Timberworks, and Humboldt County for construction of the Red Cap Road Bridge Replacement over Big Rock Gulch; and
2. Approve the final claim for payment, as submitted by the Public Works Department to the Auditor/Controller, in the amount of $1,377.55, which will bring the total amount paid to 100 percent of the contract.

DISCUSSION:
This project replaced the existing bridge on Red Cap Road at Big Rock Gulch, approximately 0.30 miles south of Highway 96, near Orleans, California. The original bridge was constructed in 1934 and modified in 1974. It became eligible for replacement on April 21, 2010, due to the poor condition of the steel girders, undermined abutments, and sub-standard railing. The new single-span, precast voided concrete slab bridge meets modern highway design standards and accommodates local and regional transportation needs.

On Jan. 3, 2017, the Board of Supervisors authorized the Clerk of the Board to advertise the above-referenced project for bids. On February 21, 2017, the county received three bids for the project. The contract was awarded to Shasta Services, Inc., dba Timberworks, the lowest responsible bidder, on March 21, 2017. The award amount was $2,410,000, and contract change orders executed during the project increased the authorized contract amount by $12,387.28.
