RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Adopt the attached resolution authorizing the Humboldt County Department of Public Works Director, or a designee, to apply for, and if awarded, accept and administer funding made available through the CalRecycle funding for SB 1383; and
2. Direct the Clerk of the Board to provide a fully executed certified copy of the attached resolution to the Humboldt County Department of Public Works for submission to CalRecycle.

DISCUSSION:
Staff recommends that the Board adopt the attached resolution which authorizes the Humboldt County Department of Public Works' Director, or a designee, to apply for, and if awarded, accept and administer funding made available through the CalRecycle funding for SB 1383Local Assistance Grant Program.

The county has made the investment of time and funds to comply with the guidelines set in place by SB 1383. These grant funds will help keep the county in compliance with SB 1383. SB1383 is aimed at reducing methane-producing organic waste in landfills by reducing organic waste disposal 75% by 2025 and rescuing for people to eat at least 20% of currently disposed surplus food by 2025.

Jurisdictions that do not meet the requirements of this state law are subject to fines of $10,000 per day. The county submitted a Notification of Intent to Comply with the requirements of SB1383 and SB 619, to CalRecycle in February of 2021.
