Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Appoint Natalie Arroyo to the Crisis Intervention Team.

DISCUSSION:
Crisis Intervention Teams are trained in a pre-booking jail diversion program designed to improve the outcomes of police interactions with people with mental illness. The Crisis Intervention Team is a community collaboration between mental health providers, law enforcement, tribal governments, county staff and family and consumer advocates. This group reviews local systems to determine the community's needs, agrees on strategies for meeting those needs and organizes police and law enforcement trainings. The Crisis Intervention Team provides a forum for effective problem solving regarding the interaction between the criminal justice and mental health care systems and created the context for implementing needed change.

Kelly Johnson, formerly with DHHS and now with the Yurok Tribe, has asked Natalie Arroyo to serve as a member. While they do not require an official appointment in this matter, for transparency, the Clerk of the Board's Office sharing this item with the entire Board.

Current membership includes Eureka Police Department, Humboldt County Sherriff's Department, DHHS and the Tribal police. Current meeting schedule is the third Friday of each month. This appointment would be at the pleasure of the Board with no end date at this time.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There is no financial impact to making an appointment. Members do not receive stipends or travel reimbursements.
