DISCUSSION:
Lauren Prehoda, Caltrans Road Charge Program Manager will provide an overview of the California Road Charge program, and discus the upcoming rural and tribal pilot program.
Caltrans has been studying Road Charge as a replacement for the gas tax. Road Charge is an alternative funding mechanism that allows drivers to support road and highway maintenance based on how many miles they drive, instead of how many gallons of gas they use.
As part of their study, Caltrans is specifically working with rural and tribal communities on a pilot program studying Public/Private Roads beginning in March, 2023.
Caltrans appreciates the opportunity to provide information on the Road Charge program and discuss the upcoming pilot program.
