RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Approve the attached plans and specifications for the Redway Drive/Redwood Drive Highway Safety Improvement Project; and
2. Direct the Clerk of the Board to advertise the above-mentioned project as required by Section 22037 of the California Public Contract Code, with bids to be opened on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.

DISCUSSION:
The Redway Drive/Redwood Drive Highway Safety Improvement Project provides safety improvements for pedestrians crossing Redway Drive. The proposed work will provide Americans with Disabilities (ADA) compliant curb ramps, crosswalk, sidewalk, and driveway. In addition, a solar powered light will be programmed to provide lighting at the intersection during the night.

On June 23, 2022, Humboldt County Department of Public Works ("Public Works") received approval from California Department of Transportation for federal project HSIPL 5904(181) for construction. Mark Thomas and Company, Fehr and Peers, and Y & C Transportation Consultants subsequently prepared the attached plans and specifications for the project based on a topographic survey prepared by Public Works.

Accordingly, Public Works recommends that the Board of Supervisors approve the attached plans and specifications and advertise the Redway Drive/Redwood Drive Highway Safety Improvement Project.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There is no financial commitment until the Redway Drive/Redwood Drive Highway Safety Improvement Project is awarded.
