RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Approve the donation of two Ford F150 pickup trucks to the county Motor Pool for capitalization, maintenance, and insurance purposes.
Body

SOURCE OF FUNDING:
Vehicle purchase budgeted from permit fees in fiscal year 2021-22 from budget unit 1100-262
Vehicle purchase budgeted from General Fund allocation in fiscal year 2021-22 from budget unit 1100-269

DISCUSSION:
The Humboldt County Planning and Building Department requested the purchase of two 4-wheel drive, Ford F150 pickup trucks (vehicle numbers 20427 and 20428) to provide inspection services. The purchase of the vehicles was included in Fiscal Year (FY) 2021-22 budget for the Planning and Building Department, budget units 1100-262 and 1100-269, which was approved by the Board in June 2021. In order to reduce costs related capitalization, maintenance and insurance purposes the Planning and Building Department would like to donate the vehicles to county Motor Pool. Without donating the vehicle, the Planning and Building Department would need to assume responsibility for insurance and maintenance, and would likely need to contract with a third party at higher expense.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The value of the trucks is $35,292.63 each. Expenditure appropriation for the vehicles and county Motor Pool costs were included in the approved FY 2021-2022 budget for the Planning and Building Department, budget units 1100-262, and 1100-269. Annual capitalization costs will be $4,684.67. Annual maintenance costs are $3,280 based on current Motor Pool rates and estimated 670 miles per month. These funds were made available from permit fees and the General Fund allocation.
