end
RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Authorize the chair to sign a letter of support for Assembly Bill 2176 (Wood), legislation related to registering births
Body
SOURCE OF FUNDING:
N/A
DISCUSSION:
Current state law requires all live births to be registered with the local registrar of births within 10 days of the birth. The Department of Health and Human Services - Public Health is the local registrar of births in Humboldt County. Assembly Bill 2176 (Wood) would instead require births to be registered with 21 days. This change will accommodate Native American cultural traditions of naming newborns.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There is no impact to the county General Fund associated with sending the letter.
STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
This action supports your Board’s Strategic Framework by providing community-appropriate levels of service.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
N/A
ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:
The Board could choose not to send a letter of support for this bill.
