DISCUSSION:
On March 17, 2020, your Board received an update from DHHS regarding the then-current status of COVID-19 pandemic in Humboldt County, and ratified a resolution declaring the existence of a local emergency related to the virus. Subsequently, the Humboldt County Health Officer issued a shelter-in-place order throughout the county, and Governor Gavin Newsom issued a similar order throughout the state in order to slow the spread of the virus, developing a color-coded Blueprint for a Safer Economy tier system, denoting certain restrictions based on case metrics in fall of 2020.

Since March 17, 2020, DHHS - Public Health, the Health Officer and other county staff have provided biweekly updates surrounding COVID-19 data and related activities via Special Presentation to your Board and the community. On June 15, 2021 Governor Newsom retired the Blueprint for a Safer Economy, removing all restrictions as COVID-19 spread had significantly slowed and with availability of the COVID-19 vaccine. Now that COVID-19 is less of a threat to our medical infrastructure and community businesses and county offices are returning to more normal activities, DHHS - Public Health staff and/or the Humboldt County Health Officer will provide updates to your Board and the community via written biweekly reports until this frequency is reviewed by your Board or the Chair of the Board.
