Surplus Vehicles/Sale of Surplus Vehicles
end

RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Declare four (4) vehicles surplus;
2. Authorize the sale of vehicles to College of the Redwoods Law Enforcement Training Center; and
3. Deposit the revenue from the sale in the Motor Pool Fund.

Body
SOURCE OF FUNDING:
Motor Pool (3500)

DISCUSSION:
The following vehicles have been replaced after being fully depreciated and instead of going into the surplus auction, the Public Works Department wishes to direct the sale these vehicles to College of the Redwoods Law Enforcement Training Center which trains many officers for local law enforcement agencies within the county.
Equipment # 07182 2014 Ford Interceptor
Equipment # 07185 2014 Ford Interceptor
Equipment # 07187 2015 Ford Interceptor
Equipment # 07189 2015 Ford Interceptor

FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Revenue from the sale of the surplus vehicles will be deposited in the Motor Pool budget (3500-351) and used to offset the purchase of replacement vehicles. The revenue is equal to the salvage value of each vehicle set at $3,000. Total revenue of $12,000 was included in the approved fiscal year 2020-21.

STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
This action supports your Board's Strategic Framework by building interjurisdictional and regional cooperation .

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
College of the Redwoods Law Enforcement Training Center

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:
Your Board could choose not to authorize the sale of surplus vehicles to College of the Redwoods Law Enforcement Training Center and authorize the vehicles to be placed in a surplus auction. However, this is not recommended as placing these vehicles in a surplus auction would not benefit the training of local recruits in law enforcement activities.
