RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Accept the resignation of Marek Reavis, Public Defender, effective July 2, 2021; and
2. Appoint Luke Brownfield to the position of Acting Public Defender on an interim basis, effective July 4, 2021, and continuing until the appointment of a permanent Public Defender is made.

DISCUSSION:
Mr. Reavis, Public Defender, submitted his resignation effective July 2, 2021. At this time, staff recommends accepting the resignation, and appointing Assistant Public Defender Luke Brownfield to the position of Acting Public Defender on an interim basis and continuing until a permanent appointment is made.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The salary for the Public Defender is currently budgeted in the Public Defender budget (1100-219) for fiscal year 2021-22. The current salary for the Public Defender at Step 1A is $160,139.

This action supports your Board’s Strategic Framework by enforcing laws and regulations to protect residents .

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:
