DISCUSSION:

This donation comes from the Masonic Lodge of Eureka, Humboldt Lodge #79. The Freemasons are taught to practice charity and to care not only for their own, but also for the community as a whole, both by charitable giving and by voluntary efforts and works as individuals. Freemasonry has been concerned with the care of orphans, the sick, and the aged; and supports a variety of community- minded endeavors that improve and support Humboldt County residents. The Healthy Moms staff and clients are deeply honored by this gift.

The Healthy Moms Program is a substance abuse treatment program for women who are pregnant or have at least one child under the age of 6. The program provides comprehensive services designated to meet a broad range of client needs and thus give clients the best chance of success. The services offered by Healthy Moms include group treatment, individual therapy, psycho-education on parenting and recovery, childcare, case management, art therapy, and a breakfast program. The atmosphere of the program is designed to be nurturing and family-oriented. Clinical interventions are consistently strength-based, and trauma-informed. The overall goal of the program is to help empower women to break the cycle of addiction and abuse.

The donation will be used for specific activities, such as visits to the discovery museum, resources to support moms, and holiday trips to provide pro-social opportunities for moms and kids in the program.
