That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Approve the recommended appointments to the Fire Safe Council.

DISCUSSION:
The Humboldt County Fire Council met on February 11, 2021. At this meeting the Council membership expressed support for two nominated members and are asking the Board of Supervisors for their appointments. Per the Board of Supervisors updated Protocol for Board of Supervisors Appointments dated March 23, 2021, the Fire Safe Council is listed on Exhibit 1 of Attachment B so therefore is excluded from the At Large appointment protocol.
The Humboldt County Fire Chief’s Association agreed to nominate Arcata Fire Chief Justin McDonald as their representative with Samoa Fire Chief Dale Unea as his alternate. Chief Justin McDonald would replace Chief Lon Winburn.
The Yurok Tribal Coucil has nominated Rod Mendes to fill their second Tribal seat which the Board of Supervisors created on February 9, 2021. Mr. Mendes was formerly a Hoopa representative and would be an asset to the Council.
Please note that there is still one vacant seat for a Humboldt Prescribed Burn Associate that will be recommended at a future date.
