DISCUSSION:

Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District (HBMWD) provides water to the City of Eureka and its nearly 35,000 residents as well as commercial water customers.  Growing concerns over a contaminated plume of groundwater moving toward the Mad River upstream of the District’s intake wells has prompted the HBMWD, the City of Eureka and the City of Arcata to request the state allocate additional funding in the current year budget to the Department of Toxic Substance Control to make immediate remediation a priority and advance cleanup efforts to protect our drinking water sources in the Mad River.

Humboldt County strongly supports this effort and is sending a similar letter requesting additional state funding to ensure the protection of our residents and the environment.
