RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Approve Grant Number PS21005 with the State of California - Office of Traffic Safety for $120,000 for the term of Oct. 1, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2021;
2. Approve, and authorize the Safe Routes to School Program Coordinator to sign as the Grant Director;
3. Approve, and authorize the Director of Public Health to sign as the Authorizing Official;
4. Approve, and authorize the Public Health Budget Specialist to sign as the Fiscal Official;
5. Approve, and authorize the Safe Routes to School Program Coordinator to complete and sign page 18 of the Grant Agreement to provide access to grant management and reporting tools to necessary employees;
6. Approve, and authorize the Department of Health and Human Services - Public Health Director, or a designee thereof, to execute any and all subsequent amendments to the attached Grant Agreement # 21005 after review and approval by County Counsel, Risk Management, and the County Administrative Office; and
7. Direct the Clerk of the Board to return one copy of the certified board report to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) - Contract Unit.

DISCUSSION:
The City of Eureka, in a 2017 comparison with 94 cities of similar size ranked second for pedestrian involved collisions, third for pedestrian involved collisions in which the pedestrian is under the age of 15, and first for pedestrians over the age of 65.

Also in 2017, the City of Eureka ranked third for collisions involving bicyclists and fourth for collisions involving bicyclists under the age of fifteen.
