DISCUSSION:

On March 17, your Board received an update from DHHS regarding the then-current status of COVID-19 in Humboldt County, and ratified a resolution declaring the existence of a local emergency related to the virus. Since that time Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich issued shelter-in-place order throughout the county, and Governor Gavin Newsom issued a similar order throughout the state in order to slow the spread of the virus. In addition, DHHS confirmed an additional three positive tests of Humboldt County residents with COVID-19 one month after the county had its first confirmed positive case.

There are many steps county officials are taking to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to help the community during this time, including vulnerable residents and the business community. However, it is likely that the number of confirmed cases in Humboldt County will increase and staff and community partners will need to continue to take measures to prepare for issues that will face residents in the future.
