RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Approve, and authorize the Chair of the Board to execute, the attached professional services agreement with Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods for fiscal years 2019-20 through 2021-22 in an amount not to exceed $60,000; and
2. Direct the Clerk of the Board to route the fully executed agreement to the DHHS-Contract Unit for further processing.

DISCUSSION:
For more than 40 years, Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods (BGCR) has worked with thousands of disadvantaged young people. BGCR serves youth who have suffered abuse and trauma, have been removed from families and/or lack positive adult role models. The youth participate in preventative programs which help with self-esteem, achieving success in school and becoming productive and caring citizens in the community.

This agreement will help BGCR provide the following services:

1. Expand the mental health component of its services to the youth served at the Eureka Clubhouse and Eureka Teen Center with the goal in reducing suffering that may result from abuse and trauma.

2. Provide increased staff training to assist in mentoring and improving the academic success of BGCR members.

3. Reinforce the process of creating a structured referral process by partnering with organizations in the community to help members and their families access mental health resources.

The three-year program cost for BGCR in Humboldt County will be $60,000. Total costs are not to exceed $20,000 for each fiscal year. The agreement is scheduled to run from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2022.
