SOURCE OF FUNDING:
The Marijuana Eradication Team (MET) is funded by a combination of the following: Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG), Domestic Cannabis Eradication / Suppression Program funding from the US Drug Enforcement Agency, and General Fund.
DISCUSSION:
The Sheriff is providing a year-end report of the MET enforcement efforts. The MET is a special unit tasked with investigating commercial cannabis state crime violations. MET deputies work in collaboration with assisting agencies to investigate and serve search warrants on properties without county and state cultivation permits.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The cost to prepare the year-end MET report includes minimal staff time and was included in the Fiscal Year 2019-20 budget.
STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:
This action supports your Board’s Strategic Framework by enforcing laws and regulations to protect residents .
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
Several agencies participate in Sheriff’s MET, including the District Attorney’s Office, Code Enforcement, California Department of Fish & Wildlife, California Department of Water Resources and others as needed.
