DISCUSSION:
In recognition of the importance of childhood cancer awareness, the Board would like to proclaim September 2019 as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Humboldt County. Childhood cancer only receives 4% of the money raised for research in the United States even though cancer is the leading cause of death in children between infancy and age 15. Organizations such as St. Jude’s and Cookies for Kids Cancer give 100% of the money raised directly into treating and curing this disease. New research and better protocol can only happen after more attention and funding is in place. The Board of Supervisors would like to encourage Humboldt county citizens to support programs and bring awareness to childhood cancers.
