DISCUSSION:
Supervisor Fennell has been meeting with several local groups in the Southern Humboldt area about various community projects and concerns. They have recently united to form a SoHum Municipal Advisory Community Collaboration Planning Group. Upon meeting with them, Supervisor Fennell has suggested that the formation of a municipal advisory committee at a county level, much like the McKinleyville Municipal Advisory Committee, that would be a beneficial collaboration fostering communication between county service providers and community members.
Using the Southern Humboldt Unified School District boundaries as the area to be represented, such a committee would include a minimum of 5, not to exceed 7, appointed seats. Supervisor Fennell would appoint three seats and the Board of Supervisors would appoint four at-large seats. The suggested appointees would be a representative of local business, tourism, cannabis industry, health care profession, education, and nonprofits or service organizations.
This committee would be charged with gathering input from the community and commenting on matters of concerns which relate to county services including, but not limited to, public works, health, safety, welfare and public financing. It would also review, comment and provide advisory recommendations to the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors on zoning amendments and General Plan petitions and amendments located within the Committee boundaries.
