DISCUSSION:
The Eel River Recovery Project (ERRP) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is “To empower communities to collaborate in monitoring the ecological conditions of the Eel River. To share information about the health of the watershed and to work together to formulate and implement a restoration strategy”. They work together with many local businesses, agencies, institutions, tribes, and other non-profit organization to fulfil their mission.
The ERRP has recently submitted a grant proposal to the State Water Resource Control Board (SWRCB) for support of their proposed work in the remote Middle Eel River watershed. Their plan includes helping local residents, including cannabis farmers, conserve water and adopt best agricultural practices. This effort will reduce water pollution and stream flow depletion.
SWRCB has funded efforts of the ERRP in both 2015 and 2016. This new proposal would continue their work on one of the most challenging areas in the Eel River watershed for regulation and enforcement. Therefore, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors would like to send a letter of support for the ERRP and this beneficial project.
