SUBJECT:

title

First 5 Humboldt Creation of Grant-Funded Position (Supervisor Mike Wilson)

end

RECOMMENDATION(S):

Recommendation

That the Board of Supervisors:

1.                     Allocate 1.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) Program Coordinator (class 1425, salary range 422) position in budget unit 462, effective immediately following approval.

Body

SOURCE OF FUNDING:

Grant Funding: Vesper Society and St. Joseph Health Community Benefit

DISCUSSION:

First 5 Humboldt, an independent Children and Families Commission, has historically coordinated its Adverse Childhood Experience (ACEs)/Resilience Project using an extra help position, funded by Vesper Society, an operating foundation dedicated to the promotion of health and social justice. The position is responsible for coordinating with community organizations and conducting special projects related to the prevention of ACEs and the promotion of resilience. Vesper Society has allocated funding to increase the capacity of this position. We have experienced increasing requests from the community for the ACEs/Resilience coordinator’s time. If the Board approves, the 1.0 FTE position will be better able to meet the needs of the community. If, for any reason, Vesper Society or St. Joseph Health chooses not to continue funding for the ACEs/Resilience project, First 5 Humboldt will either identify additional funding sources or eliminate the position.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no financial impact to the County General Fund.  Funding will be provided by Vesper Society, St. Joseph Health, and/or Proposition 10/California Children and Families Act.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

None.

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:

The Board could chose not to allocate a 1.0 FTE Program Coordiator position.
