DISCUSSION:

The HRC has been concerned with the Human Trafficking issue for over a year.  On June 26, 2018 your Board approved an allocation of $21,145 for the HRC to work with the Humboldt Area Foundation to create the Humboldt County Human Trafficking Fund and to develop a $20,000 grant program to address human trafficking.  The HRC established a standing committee, which is working with the Humboldt Area Foundation to approve the grant applications.

The HRC is recommending that the Board of Supervisors award two $10,000 grants to the following:

1.                     Empower, Protect, Invest (IPE) through the support of the Eureka Foursquare Church and applicant Katrina Taylor for a resource database and to build a community coalition.

2.                     Native Women’s Collective directed by Cutcha Risling Baldy to develop traditional indigenous approaches to healing the affected populations.

The HRC will be monitoring and reporting on these projects as part of their annual report to the Board of Supervisors.
