RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Adopt a Supplemental Budget in Fund 1500 Budget Unit 621, County Library for fiscal year 2018-19; and
2. Authorize the Auditor-Controller to supplement the budget as shown in Attachment 1. (4/5 Vote Required)

DISCUSSION:
Humboldt Library Foundation’s donation will allow the library to replace one of the older microfilm readers. Two of the three microfilm readers still in use at the Eureka library were purchased for the opening of the new Eureka Library building in 1995. Due to the age of the reader/printers we are no longer able to procure a maintenance agreement and parts for the machines are no longer available. The new piece of equipment will provide the community with continued access to the Library’s historical and genealogical materials.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There is no impact to the county General Fund. The cost to replace the Microfilm Reader is $10,000. Donations from the Humboldt Library Foundation will cover the purchase price of the equipment, installation, training and the first year of maintenance.

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:
The Board could choose to not approve the request to replace the reader/printer.
