DISCUSSION:

On April 11, 2017, the Board of Supervisors received a presentation from HSU and a leading team of researchers working to connect with the fishing communities of Eureka and Shelter Cove to develop their own unique Fishing Community Sustainability Plans, allowing local fishermen to have a positive impact on the future of their port and their industry.

Since that time, the project team has been working with key stakeholders to help oversee the planning process and work towards development of the FCSP plans in the Eureka and Shelter Cove communities in an effort to create community awareness while providing a strategic roadmap which builds on current success and prepares for future changes, leading to increased fishing opportunities, infrastructure upgrades, and increased community cohesion.

Now that the FCSP’s are complete, Dr. Laurie Richmond, the principal investigator will present the completed Shelter Cove and Eureka Plans to the Board of Supervisors and the community.
