RECOMMENDATION(S):

Recommendation

Body

SOURCE OF FUNDING:

Donations

DISCUSSION:

Funding is required to install a side locking gate that will secure county property from a thoroughfare and vandalism on the southwest (Ingomar) side of the Eureka Main Library. The funds would be used for the purchase of two matching wrought-iron gates, and installation, through Pete’s Fencing. A funding application for this project was submitted to the Humboldt County Citizens’ Advisory Committee on Measure Z expenditures. The committee did not recommend this project. Subsequently a Humboldt County citizen notified the Library of a $2,500 donation to be made in order to effectuate this project. In order to cover the balance of the project, the Library is able to utilize other discretionary donation revenues.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no impact to the county General Fund. The total cost to install the gates is $4,005. $2,500 was donated specifically for this project and the remaining cost will come from Library discretionary donations.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

Public Works

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:

The Board could choose to not approve the request for the appropriation transfer. This is not recommended as staff time would continue to be used for monitoring unauthorized activity.
