DISCUSSION:
On July 27, 2018 and August 8, 2018, a total of 16 “Deadly Steep Beach” signs were installed at Big Lagoon County Park and nearby county roads with beach access to warn the public about uniquely dangerous conditions that have resulted in four fatalities (one in April, 2018 and three in November, 2012).
The sign information and graphics were developed by the National Weather Service in consultation with the Water Safety Coalition of Northwestern California.
Funds for the project were donated by State Farm Insurance Agents and Green Diamond Resource Company to cover the external costs for sign fabrication and installation. The signs were then installed by County Park staff.
Troy Nicolini from the National Weather Service and Paul Nicholson, retired State Farm Agent will highlight the work that went into the Big Lagoon Signage Project and thank all of our community partners that worked on the project.
