RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors confirm the appointment, as made by the Humboldt County Superior Court's Board of Judges, and observe the oath of office for Shaun Brenneman as Chief Probation Officer; and, authorize staff to notify the Humboldt County Superior Court of your Board's recognition of said confirmation.

DISCUSSION:
Pursuant to Government Code, GOV 27770(a), the Board of Judges shall nominate the Chief Probation Officer and compensation be set by the Board of Supervisors of the county. Therefore, on September 7, 2018, the Humboldt County Superior Court notified the County of Humboldt that the Board of Judges appointed Shaun Brenneman as the Chief Probation Officer for Humboldt County. Compensation was established pursuant the department head compensation plan and salary costs were included within the fiscal year 2018-19 budget. Interim Chief Probation Officer Brenneman has been serving in this temporary capacity since April 14, 2018, when your Board appointed him to the interim position.
The Presiding Judge, Joyce D. Hinrichs, will administer the oath of office in the Board of Supervisors' chambers to Chief Probation Officer Brenneman upon confirmation by the County of Humboldt Board of Supervisors. Staff, therefore, recommends that your Board confirm the appointment made by the Board of Judges, observe the oath of office and authorize staff to notify the Humboldt County Superior Court of your affirmation.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There is no impact to the General Fund, as the salary and compensation for the Chief Probation Officer was included in the adoption of the fiscal year 2018-19 budget.
