DISCUSSION:

A Global Climate Action Summit spearheaded by Governor Brown starts Wednesday , Sept. 12, 2018, in San Francisco, CA, celebrating the actions of sub-national governments to meet the Paris Accord, with the theme of "taking ambition to the next level."  Humboldt County committed to a cap and various Green House Gas (GHG) reduction goals in the General Plan Update (GPU) and accompanying Environmental Impact Report (EIR), and this would be an early step toward implementing those commitments. Establishing specific goals for 100 percent clean, renewable energy is something that cities around the country are actively pursuing. In fact, Eureka and Arcata have already adopted resolutions for 100 percent clean, renewable energy by 2025.  In addition, the McKinleyville Community Services District (MCSD) has adopted a 100 percent clean, renewable energy resolution, and the Redwood Coast Energy Authority (RCEA) is currently in the process of updating old assessments in an effort to reach 100 percent renewables locally. The target of 100 percent clean, renewable energy by 2025 is looking much more optimistic.
