DISCUSSION:

In recognition of the importance of childhood cancer awareness, the Board wishes to proclaim September, 2018 as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Humboldt County.  Childhood cancer only receives 4 percent of the money raised for research in the United States even though cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children between infancy and age 15.  Organizations such as St. Jude’s and Cookies for Kids Cancer give 100 percent of the money raised directly into treating and curing this disease.  New research and better protocol can only happen after more attention and funding is in place.  The Board would like to encourage Humboldt county citizens to support programs and bring awareness to childhood cancers and disease.
