Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors approve amending the name of the bridge over Mill Creek on Lighthouse Road to become the “Rex and Ruth Rathbun Memorial Bridge.”

DISCUSSION:
On March 26, 2013, the Board approved naming the bridge over Mill Creek on Lighthouse Road near Petrolia as the “Rex Rathbun Memorial Bridge” in accordance with the County’s bridge-naming policy. Rex and Ruth Rathbun moved to Petrolia in 1974 and became highly influential residents and leaders in the lower Mattole community. Rex Rathbun died in January 2010 at the age of 89. Rex Rathbun’s wife, Ruth, contributed equally to their family’s historically significant achievements and community service, and there is strong community support for amending the name of the bridge to become the “Rex and Ruth Rathbun Memorial Bridge.”
