DISCUSSION:

This project consisted of drainage improvements, shoulder widening, and a paving overlay on Red Cap Road from post mile 0.30 to post mile 1.56, as the second phase of a project that widened the road and provided bike lanes from post mile 0.0 to post mile 1.56. This project completed the portion between Big Rock Gulch Bridge and Shivshaneen Lane. The Karuk Tribe agreed to provide funding that it received from the Federal Highway Administration Tribal Transportation Program to assist the county in implementing these improvements.

On June 9, 2015, the Board of Supervisors authorized the Clerk of the Board to advertise the above referenced project for bids. On July 14, 2015, the county received four (4) bids for the project. The contract was awarded to GR Sundberg, Inc., the lowest responsible bidder, on September 8, 2015. The award amount was $841,076.00, and change orders through project completion amounted to an increase of $38,072.96.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

Total construction costs for this project were $879,148.96. This project was funded through the Federal

Highway Administration, which provided one hundred (100) percent of the construction costs. Construction costs were included in the Fiscal Year 2017-2018 Road Fund Budget; therefore, this project did not affect the General Fund.

This project conforms to the Board of Supervisors' Core Role of providing for and maintaining infrastructure as identified in the Board's Strategic Framework.

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:

The Board may choose not to accept the project; however, staff does not recommend this alternative because the project has been completed, and the requested Board actions are needed to accept the contract.
