DISCUSSION:
On June 11, 2025, Assemblymember Chris Rogers introduced ACR 96, legislation to designate a specified portion of State Route 101 in the County of Humboldt as the Assembly Member Patty Berg Memorial Highway. ACR 96 is co-authored by state Senator Mike McGuire.
Eureka resident Patty Berg served as the state Assemblymember representing Humboldt County from 2003 to 2009. During her tenure in the state legislature, she was Chair of the Assembly Committee on Aging and Long Term Care, Chair of the Select Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture and Chair of the Legislative Women's Caucus.
The portion of Route 101 the bill aims to designate is along Arcata, from approximately 12th Street north to Guintoli Lane. The measure would request that the Department of Transportation determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover the cost, to erect those signs.
