RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Approve acceptance of the $25,000 grant award for the California for All Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) on behalf of Humboldt County CERT;
2. Authorize the Sheriff, Undersheriff or Deputy Director Sheriff's Administration to execute the standard agreement (attachment 1) and all related reimbursement claims, applications, contracts, agreements and amendments thereto and all other documents required by the California Office of the Governor and/or the California Volunteers as it relates to acceptance and management of this grant; and
3. Approve the supplemental budget for the Sheriff Operations CERT budget unit 1100-221860.

DISCUSSION:
This $25,000 grant award from California Volunteers will fund training of new CERT volunteers and necessary equipment for the Humboldt County CERT organized under the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services (OES). County CERT covers all unincorporated areas of the county and incorporated areas without an active team. This funding will enable Sheriff's OES to offer four sessions of the 23-hour Basic Course over an 18-month performance period, with a focus on rural areas at high risk for isolation following local disasters. In addition, this funding will cover background checks and additional insurance for registered Disaster Service Worker Volunteers (DSWVs) for events and trainings not covered by the State Compensation Fund to DSWVs deployed for emergency response, including public outreach and preparedness events.
