RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Approve the attached plans and specifications for the Blue Slide Road (2G100) Post Mile 3.24 Storm Damage Repair Project; and
2. Direct the Clerk of the Board to advertise the above-mentioned project as required by Section 22037 of the California Public Contract Code, with bids to be opened on Tuesday, Mar. 24, 2020, at 2:00 p.m.

DISCUSSION:
On Mar. 7, 2017, the Governor of the State of California declared a disaster for Humboldt County due to severe winter storms, flooding and mudslides. Blue Slide Road Post Mile 3.24 located between Ferndale and Rio Dell in central Humboldt County, experienced damage to the westbound travel lane due to a slide below the roadway which closed down one lane of the westbound traffic.
On Oct. 29, 2019, the Humboldt County Department of Public Works ("Public Works") received Federal Highway Administration funding approval to proceed with the Blue Slide Road Post Mile 3.24 Storm Damage Repair Project. Public Works subsequently prepared the attached plans and specifications for the project. The work proposed in the attached plans and specifications consists of constructing a welded wire wall with drainage features, installing guardrails, reconstructing the roadway with aggregate base, placing hot mix asphalt and installing sediment and erosion control items.
Accordingly, Public Works recommends that the Board of Supervisors approve the attached plans and specifications and advertise the Blue Slide Road Post Mile 3.24 Storm Damage Repair Project.
