DISCUSSION:
The Board of Supervisors recognizes October 2026 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Humboldt County. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the United States and can also affect men. Early detection, including recommended mammography screening, can significantly improve outcomes.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month provides an opportunity to increase awareness, encourage appropriate screening and early detection, support continued research and advances in treatment, celebrate survivors and remember those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer, including those we have lost.
By adopting this proclamation, Humboldt County reaffirms its commitment to community health and to recognizing and supporting individuals, families and loved ones affected by breast cancer.
