Body

STRATEGIC PLAN:

This action supports the following areas of your Board’s Strategic Plan.

Area of Focus:  Core Services/Other

Strategic Plan Category:  9999 - Core Services/Other

DISCUSSION:

The Treasurer-Tax Collector (TTC) recommends that the county renew its contract with GovEase. GovEase handles property tax online auctions. If approved, the agreement will cover the county’s property tax auctions from Fiscal Year (FY) 2024-25 through FY 2026-27.

Government Code, section 31000, permits the Board of Supervisors to contract for these types of special services with companies who are specially trained, experienced and competent to provide the services, for which GovEase has a proven track record with online property tax auctions.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

All costs of the sale are reimbursed from sale proceeds; and auction proceeds will also be used to pay delinquent taxes owed. The net effect is the county receives tax payments, and the property taxes become current.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

None

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:

Your Board could decide not to approve the agreement, but this is not recommended because state code requires the TTC to sell tax defaulted properties.
