DISCUSSION:
The late Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library provides free, high-quality, age-appropriate books each month for children from birth through age five, regardless of their family’s income or background. The program was established by Parton to inspire a love of reading and expand children’s access to books and early literacy opportunities.
The Bridgeville Community Center serves as Humboldt County’s partner for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The center enrolls eligible children, coordinates the local program and raises funds to provide books to children throughout Humboldt County. Through this partnership and the generous support of local organizations, businesses, community groups and individuals including Friends of the Redwood Library, rotary clubs, the Kiwanis and Humboldt Sponsors, the Humboldt County Imagination Library program has mailed more than 50,000 books and served more than 2,500 local children as of June 2026.
This proclamation recognizes 9-2-5, Sept. 25, 2026, as Dolly Parton Day in Humboldt County and honors Parton’s legacy and the continued efforts of the Bridgeville Community Center to bring books and the joy of reading to children and families throughout Humboldt County.
