RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Approve acceptance of the $23,220 grant award for the Byrne JAG Mental Health Training Grant on behalf of the Humboldt County Probation Department;
2. Authorize the Chief Probation Officer to execute the standard agreement (attachment 1) and all related claims, applications, contracts, agreements, and amendments thereto and all other documents required by the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Mental Health Training Grant; and
3. Approve the attached supplemental budget for Probation, budget unit 235-002
(attachment 2).

SOURCE OF FUNDING:
Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG), administered by the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC). A trust fund will be established for these funds by the Auditor-Controller's Office and both Humboldt County Probation Department (HCPD) and the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) will utilize this trust as both departments were awarded grant funding for this purpose and the grant requires that these funds be kept in a separate trust account and not co-mingled with funds intended for other purposes.

DISCUSSION:
The Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) made $7 million dollars in Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds available statewide to law enforcement agencies for the purpose of either mental health-related training or instructor training for the Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) Behavioral Health Unit. Since Humboldt County Probation does not at present, conduct local CORE training for officers, these grant funds will be used for mental health-related training.
