RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Confirm the appointment, as made by the Humboldt County Superior Court's Board of Judges, and observe the oath of office for Coral Sanders as Chief Probation Officer; and, authorize staff to notify the Humboldt County Superior Court of your Board's recognition of said confirmation.

DISCUSSION:
Pursuant to Government Code, GOV 27770(a), the Board of Judges shall nominate the Chief Probation Officer and compensation be set by the Board of Supervisors of the county. Therefore, on September 27, 2023, the Humboldt County Superior Court notified the County of Humboldt that the Board of Judges appointed Coral Sanders as the Chief Probation Officer for Humboldt County. Compensation was established pursuant the department head compensation plan and salary costs were included within the fiscal year 2023-24 budget. Interim Chief Probation Officer Sanders has been serving in this temporary capacity since April 15, 2023, when your Board appointed her to the interim position.
The Presiding Judge, Gregory J. Kreis is unavailable, accordingly Judge Kelly L. Neel, will administer the oath of office in the Board of Supervisors' chambers to Chief Probation Officer Sanders upon confirmation by the County of Humboldt Board of Supervisors. The County Administrative Officer (CAO), therefore, recommends that your Board confirm the appointment made by the Board of Judges, observe the oath of office and authorize staff to notify the Humboldt County Superior Court of your affirmation.
