STRATEGIC PLAN:
This action supports the following areas of your Board's Strategic Plan.

Area of Focus: Core Services/Other
Strategic Plan Category: 3002 - Invest in county facilities

DISCUSSION:
On April 23, 2024, your Board approved agenda item 24-728 and executed associated resolution 24-48, which declared a facilities emergency pursuant to California Public Contract Code Sections 22050, to address the fire damage at the county leased facility at 600 West Clark Eureka.

On March 2, 2024, a fire occurred at the Dept. of Health and Human Services' leased facility at 600 West Clark Street, Eureka. The county's initial estimate of repair when the emergency declaration was approved on April 23, 2024, was over $70,000. This would have required the county to undergo a public bidding process that would have been extremely time-consuming and would have extended the time of repair by several months. This emergency facilities declaration allowed the county to have the damage repaired in a relatively quick and timely manner.

The fire mitigation repair work is complete, and staff would like to rescind the April 23, 2024 emergency declaration per Public Contract Code 22050. Approval of this Agenda Item will close this emergency.
