RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Authorize the Chair to sign the attached letter of support for California Assembly Bill 1337.

Body
STRATEGIC PLAN:
The recommended action supports the following areas of Board of Supervisors' Strategic Plan:

Area of Focus: Safe & Healthy Communities
Strategic Plan Category: 1001 -Support and sustain partnerships between public safety and partner agencies to enhance public safety in our communities

DISCUSSION:
California Assembly Bill 1337 allows the State Water Resources Control Board to regulate flows and enforce California's water rights system in a more fair, consistent and equitable manner. This bill does not change the system California uses to manage its water rights. Instead, it simply gives the State Water Resources Control Board the authority to enforce that system against all water right holders.

Humboldt County depends on sufficient water and healthy rivers to support and restore strong fisheries, to sustain our rural economy and to provide critical ecosystem services to our community and all residents of California.
