RECOMMENDATION(S):

Recommendation

That the Board of Supervisors:

Body

SOURCE OF FUNDING

Grant funding and Proposition 10: California Children and Families Act tobacco tax funding

DISCUSSION:

First 5 Humboldt, an independent Children and Families Commission, has traditionally offered parent and family support activities to families throughout the county, often through community-based playgroups in partnership with local agencies and non-profit organizations. Grant funding provides First 5 with the opportunity to offer additional child screening, referral and support services through collaboration with community partners.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no financial impact to the County General Fund. Funding will be provided through a combination of grant funding and Proposition 10/California Children and Families Act funding.

STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK:

This action supports your Board’s Strategic Framework by protecting vulnerable populations .

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

None.

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:

The Board could choose not to allocate the new positions. This is not recommended as it would leave out-of-county grant funds unused to serve local needs.
