Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Adopt the attached resolution authorizing an exception to the one hundred eighty (180) day wait period of the California Public Employees Retirement System for the employment of Patricia Sennott as a temporary retired annuitant Office Assistant II (class 0179B, salary range 308, step E) with the Humboldt County Department of Public Works, as necessary to fill a critically needed position.

DISCUSSION:
On Nov. 12, 2021, Patricia Sennott retired from her position as Office Assistant II (class 0179B, salary range 308, step E) with the Humboldt County Department of Public Works ("Public Works"), after over seven (7) years of service. Public Works anticipates that there will be a significant need for Ms. Sennott to provide continuity while new staff is hired and trained.
Ms. Sennott offered her availability to provide temporary employment, and Public Works requests to appoint her as a retired annuitant not to exceed nine hundred sixty (960) hours in the current fiscal year. The appointment of Ms. Sennott will provide department-wide support which will help ensure continuity of services.
Accordingly, Public Works recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt the attached resolution authorizing an exception to the one hundred eighty (180) day wait period of the California Public Employees Retirement System, as required by California Government Code Section 7522.56(f)(1), for Ms. Sennott's employment as a temporary retired annuitant Office Assistant II (class 0179B, salary range 308, step E) with Public Works.
