RECOMMENDATION(S):
Recommendation
That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Receive and approve the plans and specifications for the California Redwood Coast Humboldt County Airport Taxiway A relocation project;
2. Authorize the Department of Aviation to advertise the above-referenced project, pursuant to Section 22037 of the California Public Contract Code, with bids to be opened May 14, 2026, at 2:00PM; and
3. Find that the project is exempt from environmental review, pursuant to Section 15301 of the California Environmental Quality Act Guidelines.

DISCUSSION:
The Department of Aviation is requesting bid authorization for the California Redwood Coast Humboldt County Airport Taxiway A Relocation project. The work includes earthwork, grading, installation of base course and new asphalt adjacent to the current Taxiway A, along with airfield markings and new taxiway edge lighting. Once complete the existing Taxiway A will be demolished and seeded for grass. Based on current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Design Standards, the current Taxiway A is too close to Runway 14/32. The current requirement is that the parallel taxiway needs to be 400 feet from the centerline of the runway and currently the taxiway is 300 feet from the runway centerline. This relocation will make ACV compliant to handle design group III aircraft and smaller (wingspan less than 118 feet and tail height no greater than 45 feet).
