DISCUSSION:

On Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, Humboldt County experienced a 6.4 magnitude earthquake that woke the community into a state of emergency. The county immediately started emergency response to assist those citizens who needed medical assistance and general service assistance. The Sheriff’s Office, fire departments, police departments and all others involved with first response jumped into action. It was an all-hands operational response.

By the morning, another significant need was noticed in the community of Rio Dell. They had been hit the hardest and were realizing the significant infrastructure and structural damage that was done to many local businesses and private residences. The call went out to the Humboldt County Planning Department for the need of Building Inspectors to help assist those who were unsure of the safety of their homes. The employees that were called dropped everything to assist and should be recognized for their immediate response and their continued efforts.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no financial impact to recognizing outstanding work. However, their response will assist in financial recovery.
