DISCUSSION:

HWMA was formed in November of 1999 for the primary purpose of securing transportation and disposal of member agencies’ solid waste and the closure/post-closure of the Cummings Road Landfill.  Additionally, the HWMA operates the Hawthorne Street Transfer Station and handles a number of diversion services and programs such as household hazardous waste, CRV & non-CRV recycling, mattresses and tires.  Those services have been impacted by reductions of recyclable materials purchased by other countries and the COVID-19 Pandemic.  The presentation is designed to inform elected officials and the general public about the current status of those services offered at HWMA.
