That the Board of Supervisors:
1. Approve the updated roster and appointments to the Multi-Agency Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council (MAJJCC).

DISCUSSION:
Pursuant to Welfare and Institutions Code 749.22, the county is required to establish a multiagency juvenile justice coordinating council (MAJJCC), whose purpose is to develop a comprehensive juvenile justice plan for the county. This plan informs the Probation Department in how to spend monies received by the state through the Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Act and the Youth Offender Block Grant. MAJJCC was formed in the late 1990s and has been meeting quarterly ever since. By statute the MAJJCC shall, at minimum, include the Chief Probation Officer (as chair), and a representative each from the District Attorney's Office, the Public Defender's Office, the Sheriff's Office, the Board of Supervisors, Social Services, Mental Health, a community-based drug and alcohol program, a city police department, the county office of education or a school district, and an at-large community member. In addition, the council shall also include representatives from nonprofit community-based organizations providing service to minors.

The statute states the Board of Supervisors shall be informed of the community-based organizations participating in the council; however the local by-laws for MAJJCC declare the Board shall approve membership in the council by a majority vote. Therefore, staff recommends the Board approve the following list of appointments to the MAJJCC:
